Bemis Launches Just-Lift® w/Sta-Tite® Commercial Fastening System™
Unique hinge design allows easy access for thorough cleaning between seat and bowl
while revolutionary fastening system speeds installation and prevents loose seats

SHEBOYGAN FALLS, Wis., Oct. 30, 2009 — Bemis Manufacturing Co., the world leader in commercial toilet seat engineering and design, has made life easier for housekeepers and maintenance workers by combining new proprietary hinge and fastening systems to make thorough cleaning easier than ever while speeding installations and eliminating loose seats.

Designed specifically to meet the needs of housekeepers in the hospitality and healthcare industries, the new Bemis Just-Lift® hinge enables the seat to be pulled straight up from the open position. The lifted seat creates a 1.5-inch gap between the seat and bowl that enables easier and more thorough cleaning than traditional hinges allow. After cleaning, the seat is just pushed down, making the hinge flush with the bowl once more.

"Cleaning efficiency and hygiene are greatly improved with unfettered access to those areas in and around the hinge bodies that use to have housekeepers down on their knees with toothbrushes," said Bob Davis, senior channel manager at Bemis. "The feedback from the early installations at hospitality and healthcare facilities has been tremendous. Housekeeping staff love it."

The seat combines the stylish aesthetics expected in a modern home with durability needed in commercial operations. The robust hinge system of Just-Lift features electro-polished stainless steel lift posts integrated with over-molded stainless steel mounting bolts for smooth, reliable up and down travel of the seat.

The Just-Lift hinge system has been teamed up with Bemis' new Sta-Tite® Commercial Fastening System™, which delivers faster installation speeds while eliminating the need for labor-intensive retightening of loose seats.

Utilizing a single-piece fastener that includes a glass-filled nylon nut and integrated washer, the Sta-Tite fastening system installs up to 33 percent faster than conventional fasteners and allows installers to quickly achieve the exact amount of torque needed to keep seats securely fastened longer than conventional systems. The unique design of the Sta-Tite system also eliminates labor-intensive callbacks to retighten loose seats.

After mounting the seat on the bowl and finger tightening the Sta-Tite nuts, installers use a 5/8-inch wrench to tighten the lower section of the nut. When the exact proper torque is achieved, the lower section of the nut automatically shears away, eliminating guesswork about under- or over-tightening.

"The glass-filled nylon nut also produces less friction during tightening compared to traditional stainless steel, which allows it to be tightened more at a lower torque," said Davis. "In laboratory testing, we found the Sta-Tite system provides as much clamping force at 80 to 100 inch/pounds as stainless steel does at 200 inch/pounds."

The one-piece design also prevents dropped washers and nuts and precludes the installation of flat and lock washers in the wrong order — two time-consuming problems for installers.

"Combining Just-Lift with Sta-Tite has produced an integrated system that is specifically designed to save time and money while increasing hygiene and projecting a stylish upscale image in commercial bathrooms," said Davis. "With operating budgets as tight as they are, this new system is designed to solve multiple challenges for both housekeeping and maintenance staffs."
